If you’re like me, you value the photos you have taken over the years.  But what is the best way to keep them safe and secure? Cloud backups can be tricky if you don’t know what you are doing and usually require a monthly fee. Sometimes, older computers won’t recognize your iPhone as a device making the process of transferring photos to your computer rather difficult.

Consequently, I am always on the lookout for simple, non-technical ways that I can save photos from my phone or my computer. Enter Picture Keeper. This is a flash drive designed for smartphone, tablets and computers with various amounts of memory from 16GB up to 500 GB (pro version).

When I first got this device I wondered if it was really as easy as it seemed to use. Simply plug it in and click “start backup.” I am happy to say it was that easy and it quickly and automatically searched through my phone for the photos and backed them up in under 5 minutes. Viola!

Once you have backed up your photos, you can keep the device in safe place in case anything can, and probably at some point, will fail with your phone or computer. The nice thing is you have a physical place where you can quickly restore them back on your tablet, smartphone or computer.

The other problem of transferring my photos from my iPhone to my PC can also be accomplished by clicking on the “backup” popup, accessing the photos on my phone and then copying them into a file folder on my computer.

Additionally, if you have video clips on your phone (like most of us do), Picture Keeper will ask if you wish to back those up as well.

As a professional photographer, I found that Picture Keeper was simple and easy to use and a real time saver. I will be making these flash drives an essential part of my on the road travel kit.

The price of the 16 GB is $69.99. You can visit their website here.
